You would think, since when did it become fashionable to slouch. Well the tailored suits and cinched waists have their own place in fashion and our closets but the sophisticated slouch is the tricky trend a lot of us dread to wear. It looks great on the runway but is it for us?
Going through the Spring Summer 2013 collections by 3.1 Philip Lim and Topshop Unique, we had to answer that question for you and ourselves. The collections bore similarities in silhouettes and approach. Read below for a short guide into sporting slouchy fashion. Though you would still need to visit stores and try and try in fitting rooms, to get your perfect piece; but mastering this trend can bring a certain pride to all.
Wear a slouchy top
Quite simple and feasible, pair a slouchy top with relaxed trousers. While Topshop Unique advocates a minimal approach with white elbow length tee tucked in a pair of silver trousers, 3.1 Philip Lim is all for graphics and patches. Add heels for instant chic.
A slouchy Dress
Try a dress that seemingly droops from the shoulders or has loose elbow length sleeves. It almost feels like the slouchy tee became a dress, but trust us it's way more fashionable and easy to pull off.
If you have the right languid trousers and blouse but the look still feels incomplete - just throw a statement blazer over it, worn unbuttoned and you have yourself a sophisticated slouch.
Over a Skirt and Dress
Wear an unbuttoned blazer over a t-shirt dress or throw an over sized coat over a classic skirt and blouse combination. An over sized clutch can work wonders with both.
Slouchy Pants and Leather Jacket
If your slouchy pants do not look great with a blouse, try a tailored shirt instead with a curved hemline. It will be a sure hit. If it's chilly throw over your biker jacket and you will get the right vibe.
Now this trick could make slouchy fashion work for petites. If you have a slouchy jumpsuit, pair it with a blazer in similar color family. Otherwise a slouchy suit worn with a tee as seen on Topshop Unique can make you look taller, if you make sure the silhouette doesn't consume you - there is a fine line !
This is also a comparitively easier look to pull off almost by anyone. With fitted pants, try tying a light cashmere sweater on the waist for added style. Oversized sweaters worn with fitted skirts look brilliant.
